Day 9 - Cork (Blarney)

In the morning, you will have a visit of the Cork Butter Museum. Your guide will be meeting you at destination. It is a unique institution, celebrating one of the great success stories of Ireland, the butter trade. The Museum goes on to describe the internationally important Butter Exchange in nineteenth century.

For the rest of the day, we recommend you to visit the the Church of St. Anne Shandon, one of Ireland's most famous Christian landmarks. It is built with two types of stone, red sandstone from the original Shandon castle and limestone taken from the derelict Franciscan Abbey.

Or maybe take a tour to Blarney Castle. This Castle was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland's greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy, and has been attracting attention beyong Munster ever since. This historic castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The stone is set in the wall below the battlements, and, to kiss it, one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. You will be able to get more information about it directly at the hotel.
